Eric Pauls is a writer, director, and composer based in Calgary. He likes to explore existential themes and create observational character studies. He began his film career making both narrative and documentary shorts, then wrote, directed and composed the score for his debut feature film To the Mountain. The film played in several festivals, had a successful theatrical run in Canada, was sold all over the world, including to HBO, and was named a Standout Discovery by ITunes. The National Post called it "Wistful Poignancy".
More recently, he has directed the experimental documentary entitled Rosebud, Alberta which premiered at the 2019 Edmonton International Film Festival, has been nominated for a 2018 Alberta Media Award for best Original Score, as well as a CSIF stinger award for the short documentary Process which premiered at North West Fest. Finally, he has been shortlisted for the Sundance Writers Lab, the Austin Film Festival Writers Comp and the Bluecat Screenplay Competition. All of this is a result of a passionate dedication to the craft of writing and the art of filmmaking.
